Workforce Pipeline
Across the country, Making Connections sites reflect a wide variety of approaches to promote employment for challenged job seekers.
The Making Connections Jobs Pipeline is a “rapid attachment” strategy to connect neighborhood job seekers with good quality entry-level jobs in growth sectors of the local economy.
We work closely with employers to identify job openings, matching them with residents who meet or exceed their requirements. We search for employers that can provide:
- Competitive wages
- Competitive benefits packages
- Advancement potential
- Employment close to where people live
We follow a four-tier strategy for success.
- Job Readiness includes assessments of educational and/or employment skills, provision of adult basic education or GED courses, employment orientation, resume writing and interviewing skills development.
- Soft Skills Training focuses on training relative to behavior, attitude, and interpersonal communications, such as coming to work on time, how to handle conflict and anger, stress management, dealing with discrimination in the workplace, and how to manage family or parenting issues in the home or workplace.
- Hard Skills Training emphasizes vocational instruction for employment.
- Barrier Busting and Support Services provided by a variety of neighborhood providers who offer case management, mentoring, counseling, childcare/transportation assistance, and emergency financial assistance.
Call Julie in Martindale-Brightwood at 684-2361 or Elaine in Southeast at 409-6613 for exact times and location of services.
